Dishonorable Heritage
1 - Forgotten! Part of a group dedicated to the free distribution of magical knowledge, one of your ancestors betrayed Phoenix secrets to Shugenja of the other clans. They were promptly exiled from the Isawa. Gain a bad Reputation and never expect to be given Phoenix secrets.

2 - Questions! You have odd features and dark sin. At your birth, it was discovered that your mother was having an affair with someone who was "not from Rokugan". Soon after, your mother fled into the northern mountains and your father committed seppuku. You have been, reluctantly, permitted to stay in the family. Lose a rank of honor, due to your impure origins.

3 - Tempted! A charismatic but insane colleague who believed that he could capture and harness the force of one of the original seven Kami seduced a famous Shugenja in your line. It turned out that he was to be nothing more than a material component in the ritual, and when he was drawn from the ruins of the madman's fortress by Imperial Magistrates, little remained of the man he once was. Gain the Weakness Disadvantage (PC's choice of trait) and lose a point of Honor and Glory/Fame.

4 - Loose Lips! A courtier in your line once insulted the Emperor. Gain the Contrary Disadvantage.

5 - Fallen! Your Shiba ancestor failed to protect his charge in battled.
Lose a Point of honor and gain a 1 point Haunted Disadvantage (with the
fallen Shugenja).

6 - Scoundrel! The courts of Otusan Uchi were ablaze with scandal during the
time of your ancestor, a notable - and extremely lucky - Shugenja who used
his talents as a womanizer, gambler, and cruel manipulator. Gain a rank of
luck and 2 ranks of Lechery.

7 - Impudence! Bushi within your family cut down a Fushiahai out of spiteful
revenge for some petty slight. Even though they committed seppuku shortly
after, the Fortunes have ignored your family ever since. Gain the Momoku
Disadvantage.

8 - Corrupted! Your ancestor was an Isawa dedicated to discovering the truth behind dark magicks other consider 'unclean', and he was seduced by his own obsession. Gain 1-3 ranks in Lore (Maho-Tsukai) or Research - PC's choice - and an equal number of points in Shadowland Taint.

9 - Imperial Traitor! Centuries ago, one of your ancestors consorted win an oni general, conspiring to bring down the Kaiu Wall. He sent sensitive information to the Shadowlands, then went across himself. He may still be out there, somewhere. Lose 5 points of Honor and gain the Driven Disadvantage (to destroy him).

0 - Lost Knowledge! Due to the bumbling of your ancestor, important information (the layout of an ancient tomb, secrets of the Path of Man, etc.) has been lost - presumably forever. You must make it your mission to find it. Lose 5 points of Honor (which returns when the information is found), and gain a 4 pt obligation.

Questionable Heritage
1 - Ill-gotten Gains. Fame and fortune were ensured through your ancestor's impure practices. Gain a rank of Wealthy and 5 points of Honor and a Dark Secret as well.

2 - Illicit Affair. Some say that the eternal splintering of the Phoenix Clan is carried into the children of every generation, and that there will never be peace between them. Some of the same say that your ancestor's love affair with one of another family was wrong. Everyone says that you are insane to love one from beyond your bloodline. Gain the Kharmic Tie advantage with someone from another Phoenix family.

3 - Obsessed. Your ancestor was constantly bested in something, and it cost your family their lands. You are sure that you can improve on the past. Chose one of your skills below 4 and add 1 rank to it; gain the Jealousy Disadvantage with the Skill.

4 - Unremarkable. One of your ancestors went their entire life without being noticed, and people have told you that you look and act just like them. Gain the Bland advantage and lose 2 points of Glory/Fame.

5 - Spoils. One of your ancestors killed someone important in a duel. If Shiba gain a point of Honor. If Isawa gain an extra spell. If Asako gain 3 CP of skills. All families gain the Sworn Enemy Disadvantage from the properly clan as well.

6 - Tainted Bargain. Your ancestor summoned an oni, and was consumed by it. It must still remember who it was, however, because family legends refer to it returning periodically to protect its descendants - for a price. At any point, the PC may call upon the oni for help (once), but thereafter must fulfill an Obligation to it (as determined by Shaun, should notify him of the fact that you have this heritage).

7 - Doomed Cult. One of your ancestors was part of a sect devoted to learning better ways to heal other. Unfortunately they were cursed. Gain two ranks in Medicine/Acupuncture and the Permanent wound Disadvantage.

8 - Infiltrator. One of your ancestors spent time in another clan's schools to steal their secrets. Unfortunately, they never came back, and have sired a new line of relatives you are responsible for. Gain the Different School Advantage or 3 points of Honor (PC choice), and a 4 pt dependent from the appropriate clan.

9 - Another Calling. Your ancestor ignored his duty to the clan and became what he always wanted to be - an Imperial Magistrate. Although your clan was not too happy, the Magistrates have never forgotten his dedication. Gain the Bad reputation Disadvantage and a True Friend worth 4 Points.

0 - Message from the Kami. An ancestor vanished in the mountains for a month, returing with what he claimed was a message from the Kami. Gain 3 ranks in any Lore skill, but also receive a 4-Point Obligation (GM's Choice ).

Table 3A - Famous Battles
1 - 2 - Victory with no Strike - Your ancestor defended the Phoenix provinces as the Lion attempted to invade for resources and land. Your ancestor defended the land while the Crane tried to find a way to work around the treaty they had signed with the Lion. Gain 3 points of Honor and a rank of Defense.

3 - 4 - Battle of the Sleeping River - Your ancestor helped to rally the Clans against Iuchiban's horrible army of zombies on the Seven Day Battle Plain. Gain a rank of Lore (Maho) and a rank of History.

5 - Battle of the White Stag - Your ancestor used the powerful magic of the Isawa to help keep the gaijin invaders away, buffeting them with winds and water to keep their ships at bay. Gain a minor ally in the Crane and Clear Thinker if Shugenja, else gain a rank of Battle.

6 - 7 - The Five Nights of Shame - The Phoenix purged the lands of the Snake clan in less than a week. Completely and utterly destroying them in a display of force that shocked most of Rokugan. They never offered an official explanation. Gain Way of the Land for the Phoenix lands.

8 - 9 - Clan Wars - During the clan wars your ancestor fought along side of Shiba Ujimitsu during the clan wars. How he came to be at that particular skirmish, your ancestor never found out, but ever since felt a stronger connection to the heritage of the Phoenix. Gain a rank of Lore: Phoenix and you may purchase a phoenix ancestor for half price.

0 - Battle of the Sun Princess - Your ancestor hid the Phoenix from the Dragon in the Battle of the Sun Princess. HE created and maintained some of the spells that called upon the kami to shroud the Phoenix. Gain a rank of Spell Research if Shugenja, or a rank of Battle otherwise.

Step 1: Roll two dice for the clan with whom your ancestor had a romantic entanglement.

Step 2: Roll two dice to determine the result of the affair
01 - 15 Summer affair: nothing special, gain a minor ally in the appropriate clan

16 - 30 Winter affair: Much more noticeable. Gain a minor ally in the appropriate clan and 2 points of Glory/Fame.

31 - 55 Marriage: Gain 5 points of Glory, if Shugenja get a spell that is kept secret to members of that clan, otherwise a Major Ally in the appropriate Clan.

56 - 70 A spot of trouble: A parent didn't approve, so the affair was kept secret. Gain a Minor Ally and Minor Enemy in the appropriate Clan
71 - 75 Your ancestor's emotions where unrequited. Gain a minor enemy from the appropriate Clan.

76 - 90 Your ancestor's rival had too much influence, so all your ancestor won was a broken heart. (doesn't seem like much of a good fortune does it?)
91 - 97 A messy affair: Both parties were commanded to commit seppuku. You were raised by your uncle/aunt/cousin. Lose 5 points of Glory/Fame and switch your family name to another family in the Clan.

98 - 00 The affair occurred after your gempukku ceremony. The husband/father/wife of your Ancestor's lover demanded justice and killed him/her in a duel. You now have a major enemy and others of your family consider it your duty to demand the right to blood feud. Good Luck!

Table 3C - Heroic Deed:
1 - 2 Ancestor saved his daimyo from assassination. Gain a rank of Lore: Ninja and 3 Glory/Fame points

3 - 4
(shugenja) Ancestor researched spell. Gain one rank one spell of the element of the shugenja's affinity as an innate ability.
(Bushi) Ancestor was famous for his dedication to the protection of the
clan. Gain a rank of Defense or Battle, which ever is lower.

5 - 6 Ancestor defeated a famous swordsman in a duel. Gain 5 Glory/Fame points and expectations of many.

7 - 8 Ancestor rescued a kidnapped relative. Gain a Major Ally in the Phoenix and 2 points of Glory/Fame.

9 - 0 Ancestor single-handedly turned back a sally during a siege. Gain 2 pts of Glory/Fame and if Shugenja, a rank 1 spell, otherwise a rank of battle.

Table 3D - Prestigious Duty:
Your ancestor served the Phoenix well, and was granted a position within the Phoenix. Your character starts with the following benefits, though not the title:

1 - 2 Magistrate of the Family gain a rank of Investigation and 2 Glory/Fame points
